Background:

Dance Studio 22 was founded and directed by Samantha Howell. Our school is built on a foundation of exceptional technical training, extensive industry experience, and a deeply rooted passion for nurturing student growth.

Samantha’s dedication to dance began at the age of nine. Training vigorously six days a week, she immersed herself in a comprehensive array of disciplines, including:

  • Ballet & Pointe
  • Acrobatics & Contortion
  • Modern & Jazz
  • Tap
  • Contemporary
  • Lyrical
  • Musical Comedy
  • Street & Commercial Dance

From a young age, Samantha was a fixture in the competitive dance circuit, consistently earning top placements, while simultaneously performing on renowned stages across the UK. She actively expanded her training through national conventions and masterclasses, learning from some of the industry’s most respected choreographers.

Academic & Professional Achievements:

Samantha’s commitment to excellence translates directly into her academic and audition track record. She possesses a flawless audition history, having never failed any audition she had ever attended, which resulted in unconditional offers from multiple universities when moving on to higher education.

Samantha attended Sutton Coldfield College when we was 16 - 18 as this gave her the opportunity to gain further qualifications in English Literature, English Language, Drama and History along side her main love, Dance. Samantha has always strived to do her best and push her education outside of her vast dance experience and knowledge.

During her time at Sutton Coldfield College, Samantha achieved a perfect score in her two-year Dance program without dropping a single mark. She chose to continue her higher education at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall, allowing her to maintain the teaching positions she had already secured. At university, Samantha trained under esteemed dance scientists, historians, and cultural authors including Frances Clarke, Clare Lidbury, Victoria Thoms, and Danielle Aways. She also gained invaluable experience dancing with Ace Dance and Music and learning from instructors associated with the prestigious Martha Graham Dance Company.

Shaping the Next Generation

Samantha began her teaching career at just 16 years old. Balancing full-time college studies with a rigorous seven-day-a-week teaching schedule across local dance schools and eventually primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, and universities too. Samantha developed an incredible work ethic, exceptional organizational skills, and a lifelong hunger for progression.

By the age of 21, Samantha had accumulated 12 years of performance and competitive experience, alongside five years of professional teaching. Her ability to train and prepare students for the professional world is evidenced by her students' successes. Under her guidance, dancers have:

  • Performed at high-end, renowned theatres.
  • Achieved immense success in regional and national competitions.
  • Passed dance and acrobatics examinations under International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA) and Acrobatic Arts.
  • Secured coveted places at elite institutions such as Elmhurst Ballet School, The Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA).
  • Obtained spaces on prestigious associate programmes, such as Midland's Theatre Ballet (MTB), Perform Like a Pro, Ballet Britain and The Royal Ballet Junior Associates (JA).

The Story of Dance Studio 22:

A lifelong dream realized, Samantha originally intended to open her own school after her 22nd birthday, inspiring the name Dance Studio 22. However, her eagerness and readiness to lead meant the studio proudly opened its doors early, on October 8th, 2016, when Samantha was 21.

Today, Dance Studio 22 has flourished into an extraordinary community. While Samantha takes great pride in her students' technical excellence, competitive medals, and trophies, she believes true progression goes beyond the stage. Her ultimate priority is personal growth. Transforming timid, reluctant beginners into confident, self-assured individuals is the goal.

At Dance Studio 22, we believe that providing opportunities, professional training, and a supportive environment allows every student to find their voice and shine.
